Salesforce rolls out new Slackbot AI agent as it battles Microsoft and Google in workplace AI
What Happened
Salesforce on Tuesday launched an entirely rebuilt version of Slackbot, the company's workplace assistant, transforming it from a simple notification tool into what executives describe as a fully powered AI agent capable of searching enterprise data, drafting documents, and taking action on beh
Our Take
Salesforce rebuilding Slackbot as an AI agent is them playing defense. Microsoft already won this war—Copilot's in Office, Teams, and Azure. Google's got Workspace. Slack's an acquisition that costs them money, and now they're trying to justify it by gluing AI on top.
Here's the thing: Slack users don't want an agent in Slack. They want their workflows automated before they get to Slack. Putting AI in your messaging tool is like putting an LLM in your error logs—it's technically interesting and completely misses the problem.
What To Do
If you're evaluating workplace AI, test whether it cuts meeting time or just adds another notification stream.
