Netflix may have paid $600 million for Ben Affleck’s AI startup
What Happened
This deal could rank as among the streaming giant's largest acquisitions ever.
Our Take
$600M for what, exactly? A production studio? An AI scriptwriter? A vanity project? The vagueness is the tell.
My guess: Netflix got paranoid about losing in-house production capability and paid massive premium to acquire someone else's operational risk. Ben Affleck's name probably added $200M to the price tag alone (celebrity tax is real). The 'AI startup' framing is marketing. They bought management talent and infrastructure, dressed in AI language to justify it to shareholders.
Will it work? Maybe. But overpaying for incumbency rarely does.
What To Do
When VCs ask why your AI startup is worth a $600M exit, cite Affleck, not fundamentals.
