↗What Happened
The purchase rewrites the domain record books -- not that the crypto industry has ever been accused of restraint when it comes to spending.
Our Take
Seventy million dollars for a .com is unhinged. Crypto does it because they've got 2016 money they're still burning through. But here's the thing—if even 0.01% of their transaction volume routes through that domain, they break even in months. It's dumb in a way that still works out mathematically. Doesn't make it less dumb though. Just profitable dumb.
Only crypto exchanges can pull this off. Don't try it.
What To Do
Domain spending only makes sense if you have crypto-scale transaction volume and their willingness to burn cash.
