What Happened

Google Chrome is adding Gemini in the sidebar and is rolling out an agentic feature for AI Pro and Ultra users.

Our Take

Look, Google's always late to the party. They're slapping Gemini in the sidebar when the real AI browser moment already passed — Opera's got it, Arc's got it, even Perplexity's moving faster. Agentic browser features sound sci-fi, but honestly? Most users just want their browser to not eat RAM and actually respect their privacy.

Chrome's already a bloated memory hog from Google tracking everything. Adding 'autonomous tasks' to that mess just feels like another surveillance angle (seriously, what data are these agents hoovering up?). The play isn't innovation — it's desperation to keep you in the ecosystem.

What To Do

Test agentic features in a private window and check Chrome DevTools for what data's being collected.
