Airtable jumps into the AI agent game with Superagent
What Happened
SuperAgent is Airtable's first stand-alone product in its 13-year history, and signals both the company's ambitions and the reality of the current AI moment: Every serious software player is racing to prove they can deliver on agents.
Our Take
Every software company's shipping agents now. This is table stakes, not differentiation. Airtable's late, which is fine (less risk), but it tells you the agent moment is deflating fast.
SuperAgent will work fine, but it won't move Airtable's growth needle because enterprises expect this now. Nobody rewards you for shipping late on hygiene factors.
The tension: Airtable's losing dev velocity to unbounded customization. Agents don't fix that.
What To Do
Agents are hygiene factors now—late shipping is fine, but it doesn't drive adoption or defensibility.
