Why Garry Tan’s Claude Code setup has gotten so much love, and hate
What Happened
Thousands of people are trying Garry Tan's Claude Code setup, which was shared on GitHub. And everyone has an opinion: even Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini.
Our Take
A YC founder's workflow going viral just tells you how fragmented AI tooling is. People are desperate for something that works. The love/hate split is predictable: builders love the automation, but it raises the hard question of whether Claude should be making architecture calls for you. (It shouldn't.) The shade from ChatGPT and Gemini is funny—they're threatened because Claude has better guardrails and cleaner prompting. Claude isn't smarter; it's just less broken out of the box.
What To Do
If you're using Claude for code, treat it like pair programming, not autonomous coding—review everything.
