Welcome fastText to the Hugging Face Hub
Our Take
fastText? It's fine, I guess. It's a decent starting point for basic text classification, but don't mistake it for state-of-the-art. The hype around the Hub means anyone can throw a pre-trained model up there, which is fine for hobbyists, but it doesn't change the reality that fine-tuning those models for specific business needs still costs serious compute time. We're just automating the distribution of mediocre models now.
It simplifies the sharing, which is the only real win here. It cuts down on the deployment overhead, but if you're relying on fastText for critical inference, you'll still need to handle the latency and infrastructure yourself. It's a distribution layer, not a magic bullet for accuracy.
What To Do
Benchmark fastText performance against fine-tuned Llama models for your specific task.
