Teen founders raise $6M to reinvent pesticides using AI — and convince Paul Graham to join in
What Happened
Bindwell applies AI drug discovery techniques to invent new pesticide molecules.
Our Take
Finally, something with actual teeth. Drug discovery AI techniques applied to pesticides is genuinely clever — if it works, you solve a hard chemistry problem with real market demand. Farmers need new molecules. This isn't solving "better recommendations" for the 50th time.
That said, $6M for wet lab + regulatory is tight. Ag biotech has real friction (field trials, EPA approval, farmers skeptical of new chemistry). YC backing teenagers is great for press. Hope they've got the domain expertise hiding somewhere because raw talent doesn't move molecular structures past regulators.
What To Do
Track this one — agricultural AI with hard science bets often outperform SaaS plays because the bar for defensibility is regulatory, not network effects.
