What Happened

Reliance has begun building multi-gigawatt AI data centers in Jamnagar, with more than 120 MW of capacity expected to come online in 2026.

Our Take

State-backed, heavy-handed, probably overbuilt. Reliance saying they'll have 120MW online in 2026 is exactly the kind of announcement that screams "we're worried about losing compute access to OpenAI." They're right to worry. Jamnagar's already a refinery complex so they've got power and cooling, but $110B across how many years? The real question is whether they can actually hire enough talent to run these clusters. Throwing money at infrastructure is easy. Staffing them is the actual constraint.

What To Do

If you're in India and need on-shore compute, start asking Reliance about pricing now—they'll likely subsidize early customers to prove utilization.
