What Happened

The feature, which will give verified adult users access to erotica and other adult content, had already been delayed from December.

Our Take

Honestly? This feature was dead on arrival. OpenAI thought they could build an "adult mode" like it's a parental control setting — it's not. Content moderation doesn't work with toggles.

This was always going to be either neutered enough to be pointless or controversial enough to torpedo OpenAI's reputation. Delaying it for the third time means they finally figured that out. Good. Cut your losses and move on.

What To Do

When this eventually ships, it'll be either boring or broken — skip it.
