OpenAI COO says ‘we have not yet really seen AI penetrate enterprise business processes’
What Happened
There is a lot of talk around AI agents taking over business processes and claiming that "SaaS is dead." While these predictions have moved SaaS stocks at times, they haven't really come true.
Our Take
Honestly? OpenAI's being half-honest here and framing it weird. Yeah, SaaS didn't die — but not because agents suck. Enterprise workflows are already calcified in ERP/CRM black holes, and nobody wants to pay $2M to unstick them. The blocker isn't capability; it's integration cost and change management friction (corporate speak for "your ops team hates change"). OpenAI's selling agents while claiming realism — smart positioning, still spin.
What To Do
Before building an enterprise agent product, ask whether you're replacing a $50k tool or fixing a $2M integration problem. Only the latter justifies the build.
