What Happened

The tweaks allow users to further customize ChatGPT’s tone, on top of the existing ability to set a “base style and tone” — including the Professional, Candid, and Quirky tones that OpenAI added in November.

Our Take

This is feature bloat masquerading as customization. OpenAI can't (or won't) train the model to *know* when to be professional vs. quirky, so they hand the dial to the user. It works, but it's lazy design.

That said—enterprise buyers eat this stuff up. "We can customize the tone" outsells actual capability. That's the real insight here.

What To Do

If you're selling AI to corporate clients, lead with customization messaging, not model specs.
