Onton raises $7.5M to expand its AI-powered shopping site beyond furniture
What Happened
Onton, which changed its name from Deft, is giving users an infinite canvas with AI-powered image generation to nudge them toward making quicker purchase decisions.
Our Take
Seven and a half million to let people generate furniture images and maybe buy it faster. Image generation in UX is useful. But "nudging people to click buy" isn't a product — it's a casino with better design. The real question Onton never answers: does this actually move conversion rates?
If the answer is "we're still figuring that out," then $7.5M is expensive onboarding. Infinite canvas sounds cool but it's solving a problem that might not matter.
What To Do
Before raising on an AI shopping feature, get actual conversion lift numbers — vibes can't be your growth metric.
