Nvidia, Qualcomm join US, Indian VCs to help build India’s next deep tech startups
What Happened
Qualcomm Ventures has joined six Indian venture firms, collectively adding more than $850 million to boost India’s deep tech ecosystem.
Our Take
Look, $850M sounds big until you split it six ways across Indian VCs. That's ~$140M per firm—meaningful but not transformative. The real signal? Everyone's piling into India's deep-tech bet at once, which usually means the deal's already half-done. Good for startups (capital), bad for LPs (late entry, compression risk). NVIDIA and Qualcomm showing up late just proves India's no longer the scrappy frontier—it's the obvious play.
The smartest move isn't the money anyway, it's that Qualcomm gets optics ("we back India") while really it's just returning capital they already made in chips there. Fine. Not cynical, just... obvious.
What To Do
Watch which Indian deep-tech startups land multiple VCs from this group—those are the horses the cartel's actually betting on.
