↗What Happened
A new software option could make it possible to see the approximate location of some of Nvidia's AI chips.
Our Take
Pure desperation theater. If chips are being smuggled past export controls, GPS tracking doesn't solve it—you need supply chain authentication, not location data. But Nvidia's dominance is so complete that losing market share is worth the PR stunt.
The irony? They're probably less worried about Chinese researchers and more worried about US competitors building workarounds. Theater for shareholders.
What To Do
If you're designing constraint-aware systems, assume newer chips get harder to source—plan older architectures as a fallback.
