What Happened

Yann LeCun, a chief AI scientist at Meta, is planning to leave the company to build his own startup, which will focus on continuing his work on world models.

Our Take

Yann leaving Meta to chase world models makes sense technically—Meta's not the place to spend 5 years on foundational research without shipping. But the "AI talent exodus" narrative is getting tired. Everyone leaves to start something.

World models are the real unlock if true—teaching AI to predict how systems evolve. It's not a product, it's a research bet. LeCun's credible enough that money'll follow him. The question is whether he actually builds a company or just leads a well-funded lab.

Meta won't even notice. They've got enough AI leadership to fill three startups.

What To Do

Only care about this if you're in generative video or simulation—otherwise it's resume shuffle.
