DoorDash says it banned driver who seemingly faked a delivery using AI
What Happened
DoorDash seems to have confirmed a viral story about a driver using an AI-generated photo to lie about making a delivery.
Our Take
This is the inevitable dark side landing. Tools for generating convincing images are now accessible, and someone tried to use one to defraud DoorDash. Good news: their detection caught it. Bad news: detection-evasion arms race is already underway.
DoorDash and Uber and every gig platform now have to treat photo evidence as untrusted. That means harder proof requirements, more user complaints, worse experience. The fraud isn't the story — the rising cost of trust is.
What To Do
If you're building verification systems, assume visual evidence is spoofable now — require multi-factor proof or behavioral patterns, not just photos.
