DOD says Anthropic’s ‘red lines’ make it an ‘unacceptable risk to national security’
What Happened
The Defense Department said concerns that Anthropic might "attempt to disable its technology" during "warfighting operations" validate its decision to label the AI firm a supply-chain risk.
Our Take
This is geopolitical theater, not tech risk. The Pentagon wants a supplier it can push around; Anthropic won't budge. Their complaint that Anthropic might "disable its tech during warfighting" is basically saying "we need a vendor with no values." Honestly? Anthropic's taking the right stance and losing the biggest buyer in the process. They're banking on Europe and enterprise instead. Betting your valuation on principals is different math than most VCs will tolerate.
What To Do
Watch if Lockheed or Raytheon announce their own LLM vendor in the next 6 months—that's the Pentagon building its own.
