↗What Happened
After the one year is up, Disney is free to sign similar deals with other AI companies.
Our Take
Disney's buying optionality, not commitment. One year exclusive deal is a test drive, not a marriage. They're running the experiment before going multi-vendor. This tells you something important: even with a major partner, OpenAI doesn't have a moat good enough to lock anyone in.
Expect more companies to follow - exclusive deals are getting shorter, not longer. Everyone's hedging.
What To Do
If OpenAI can't hold Disney exclusive beyond 12 months, they're not going to hold anyone exclusive; bake in multi-vendor from day one.
