Here's the thing though: none of this helps us right now. GPU time is still scarce, inference costs are still volatile, and the same companies making these pledges are the ones rationing API access. We're downstream of all of it.
Long-term, more supply should mean cheaper compute. That math is real. But "eventually" does a lot of heavy lifting when your clients need things shipped this quarter (and yesterday, apparently).
What it does signal: AI workloads are going to get substantially cheaper by 2027-2028. If you're locking clients into architecture decisions based on today's inference pricing, you're doing them a disservice. Design for costs dropping 50-70%, not staying flat.
Don't lose sleep over the headline number. Just start thinking about what you'd build differently if GPT-4-class inference cost $0.05/M tokens instead of $2.50.
