What Happened

Built into the Claude Desktop app, Cowork lets users designate a specific folder where Claude can read or modify files, with further instructions given through the standard chat interface.

Our Take

This one actually shipped thinking. Cowork solves a real problem: non-technical stakeholders want to use Claude without writing prompts or dealing with code. You just point it at a folder and give instructions in chat.

The catch is the permission model. If I can access a folder, I can probably access sensitive stuff I shouldn't. Anthropic's betting users will be careful about what they put in the Cowork folder (spoiler: they won't). But at least it's a real product, not another feature announcement.

This is going to be surprisingly useful for content teams, legal review, any domain where you need AI touching files without someone writing Python.

What To Do

Test Cowork for repetitive document work like contracts or reports — set folder boundaries right and you'll save your team hours.
