Our Take
Smart distribution, dumb deal mechanics. $200M to land Claude on 12,600 customer instances sounds massive until you do the math: $16K per customer (mostly going to Snowflake, not Anthropic). Snowflake takes 30–50% of usage revenue while Anthropic subsidizes onboarding.
But here's why Anthropic took it: it's defensible moat. Snowflake customers already live in their ecosystem. Easier upsell than consumer, faster than healthcare. Half that list will never pay for external APIs anyway.

If you're building on Snowflake, Claude is now a bolt-on; compare pricing vs. open-source Llama before committing.
