Anthropic hires lawyers as it preps for IPO
What Happened
It has brought on law firm Wilson Sonsini to help kick off the process, and the company is tackling an internal checklist to prepare it for what could be one of the largest IPOs ever.
Our Take
Yeah, IPO was always coming. Anthropic's the only AI lab that might actually pull it off (OpenAI's structure blocks it, others aren't there). But here's the thing — valuations are sci-fi right now. They could go public at $50B and the market'd probably pump it another 30%.
Hiring Wilson Sonsini's smart — that firm knows unicorn mechanics. But legal advice isn't the constraint. Margin profile and customer concentration are. If Anthropic's API-dependent with shallow customer bases, that's a prospectus problem no lawyer fixes.
Smart move. Still risky timing.
What To Do
If Anthropic IPOs in 2026–2027, stress-test the prospectus for API-revenue concentration and enterprise customer count; that's where the story breaks.
