amd's trying to corner the market on the hardware layer, which is predictable. they need us to move off the chokehold of nvidia, and hardware is the only lever we actually control right now. the contest itself is just noise, but it forces the industry to acknowledge that the cost and efficiency of inference are just as important as the model quality.

we're spending too much on VRAM just to run things. if we can optimize the data path and make inference cheaper, that's a real win for the small players. if the new silicon can actually deliver better throughput with lower power consumption than the current setup, then it's worth looking at.
