‘ONE RULE’: Trump says he’ll sign an executive order blocking state AI laws despite bipartisan pushback
What Happened
“I will be doing a ONE RULE Executive Order this week,” Trump posted on social media. “You can’t expect a company to get 50 Approvals every time they want to do something.”
Our Take
He's not wrong that 50 different state AI laws would be chaos for product teams. California's version would probably conflict with Texas, and companies would end up with feature-gated madness.
But "ONE RULE" is vague as hell, and the press release didn't say what the rule actually is. Here's the problem: a federal floor-level standard could just be "no standards," which is what incumbents want anyway.
We'll know more when he actually publishes the thing.
What To Do
Start flagging state-specific compliance requirements in your roadmaps now — assume the executive order won't retroactively solve existing mess.
