What Happened

Zoom is also introducing real-time deepfake detection tech for meetings.

Our Take

Zoom's simultaneously shipping deepfake detection and enabling AI avatars. That's not irony, that's incompetence.

Here's the thing: deepfake detection sounds good until your coworker's AI avatar shows up because they're "too busy." And detection is pointless if Zoom's literally generating deepfakes. They're solving a problem they created.

This screams "we have AI roadmap items to check off." The tech will be fine. The use cases? Nobody knows. And the second someone's avatar says something problematic, there's legal hell.

What To Do

If you use Zoom, disable AI avatars in security settings and don't trust video authentication on those meetings.
