YC-backed Poly relaunches as a cloud-hosted file storage with AI search
What Happened
Poly's cloud-based file storage system with AI-powered search lets you search through text, images, audio, and video.
Our Take
Rebranding from one failed pivot to another. File storage with search is solved—Drive, Notion, a dozen startups own this market. Poly's angle is 'cross-modal search: text, images, audio, video.' Sounds cool until you realize cross-modal search is expensive to build, audio/video indexing doesn't scale cheap, and most companies don't have that data pattern anyway.
Who's the customer? Maybe video production teams? They've already got DAM. YC backing gets you credibility, not a moat. Prove unit economics work before the next rebrand.
What To Do
Validate Poly's cost-per-search on cross-modal indexing—that's the real metric for whether this survives.
