Why Amazon bought Bee, an AI wearable
What Happened
Amazon explains where its wearable Bee fits in and whether it will merge with Alexa.
Our Take
Look, Amazon's been trying to stay relevant in AI and they're running out of angles. Buying Bee (a wearable AI) is basically admitting Alexa's stalled and they need a new category to play in. The real question isn't whether wearables are the future — it's whether Amazon can actually execute here when they've fumbled so much software already.
Here's the thing though: wearables mean always-on audio capture and inference. That's a privacy optics nightmare for a company that's already on thin ice. They'll merge it into Alexa eventually but that doesn't solve the core problem — people don't really want another always-listening device.
What To Do
Skip buying Bee hardware and wait 18 months to see if privacy concerns kill it.
