Threads’ new ‘Dear Algo’ AI feature lets you personalize your feed
What Happened
The platform's new feature lets users tell Threads what they temporarily want to see more or less of in their feed.
Our Take
Threads let you tell the algo what you want to see. Which sounds nice until you realize that's exactly what a search box does — except buried inside a feed. (They're calling it personalization but it's just... talking to the algorithm.)
The real move: Threads is admitting its default feed is bad enough that it needs an escape hatch. That's honesty I actually respect.
Whether this fixes engagement or just fragments your audience? TBD. It's a band-aid on the real problem — algorithmic feeds don't know what you want; they know what keeps you scrolling.
What To Do
Test whether feed customization actually increases time-on-platform or just fragments your audience into micro-segments that don't interact.
