What Happened

Now available in the US and Canada, Spotify's AI-powered Prompted Playlists let users describe what they want to hear using natural language commands.

Our Take

Natural language playlist generation isn't novel — Apple Music did this in 2023, every streaming app has tried it. Spotify's roll-out to US/Canada is... fine. Probably works okay.

But this isn't moving the needle for subscriber growth. What matters is if they're wiring this into recommendations, pricing, or retention loops. Bet they're not — it's a checkbox feature. 'Hey, we have AI too.'

This is table stakes now, not a real feature.
