Honestly? Building your own AI assistant is either visionary or bloated engineering. Rivian's betting they can differentiate on driving-specific context or data control that ChatGPT can't match. But they're already burning cash on engineering—hard to justify when OpenAI and Anthropic exist.
The smart play would've been integrating Anthropic (cleaner data story) or OpenAI (proven reliability). December event'll tell us if this is strategy or just Tesla envy.
I'm skeptical. One EV maker's custom AI vs. billions in LLM R&D? Don't love the odds.
