Perplexity’s new Computer is another bet that users need many AI models

Perplexity calling their multi-model setup a 'unified system' is generous. They're smart routing — query matches the right LLM. Is it useful? Yeah, if you don't know which model to pick. But for power users (the ones who matter), we want direct access to Claude, GPT, or Llama. Making us click through an intermediary adds friction. Their bet: casual users like simplicity more than control. Might be right. But they're vulnerable the second a model owner cuts out the middleman.
