OpenAI releases a new safety blueprint to address the rise in child sexual exploitation
What Happened
OpenAI's new Child Safety Blueprint aims to tackle the alarming rise in child sexual exploitation linked to advancements in AI.
Our Take
Look, this is necessary work but it's also theater. Everyone wants to signal they care about child safety, and they should—but blueprints don't stop bad actors. Enforcement does. Law enforcement partnerships do. Actual detection rate improvements do.
The question: are these metrics actually moving, or is this just good PR? Hard to say without independent audits. My guess? Mixed results—they'll catch some more stuff, but bad actors will adapt faster than policy.
Real talk: I'll believe it when I see detection rates drop 50%+ on independent testing. Until then, this is table stakes communication, not innovation.
What To Do
Request OpenAI publish quarterly detection metrics against known CSAM datasets, publicly.
