OpenAI launches a way for enterprises to build and manage AI agents
What Happened
OpenAI launched Frontier, a new platform designed for enterprises to build and deploy agents while treating them like human employees.
Our Take
Gut: it's clever packaging but solving the wrong problem. Enterprises don't need *a platform* — they need to know *what to build*. Frontier is just UI for orchestration (routing, fallbacks, state management). That's table stakes, not innovation.
The "human employees" framing is pure marketing. These'll crash hard in production without fallback humans. Works fine for narrow stuff (customer service, doc classification, data extraction). Fails at anything needing judgment.
They're selling confidence in the platform, not confidence in agents.
What To Do
Don't architect your stack around OpenAI agent abstractions yet — they shift every quarter.
