↗What Happened
Nvidia acquired SchedMD, the lead developer of Slurm, and launched the Nemotron 3 family of open source AI models.
Our Take
Nvidia isn't shipping AI - they're shipping the picks and shovels. The Nemotron models are fine, but the Slurm acquisition is the actual play. HPC orchestration is sticky infrastructure; once you're running your cluster on it, switching is painful.
Nvidia's building the full stack: hardware, models, and now the orchestration layer that glues everything together. That's how you own an industry without ever needing your model to be the best.
What To Do
Control the orchestration layer, not the models; that's where the sustainable margin lives.
