What Happened

1X released a new world model that it says is a solid step toward its robots being able to teach themselves new tasks.

Our Take

1X releasing a world model for robots is honestly just table stakes now. Every robotics lab with funding is doing this—Tesla, Boston Dynamics, Figure AI. The question isn't whether a robot can learn to predict what happens next; it's whether 1X can ship a product that pays for itself before their funding dries up.

World models are cool but they're a research flex, not a business. If 1X can't turn this into cheaper manufacturing or logistics automation in 18 months, it's just more R&D theater.

What To Do

Watch how fast 1X moves from 'cool demo' to 'actual customer deployment.' That timeline matters way more than the model quality.
