LinkedIn adds AI-powered search to help users find people
What Happened
LinkedIn's AI-powered people search is rolling out to premium users in the U.S.
Our Take
LinkedIn's had full-text search for 15 years. Slapping 'AI' on it now because semantic search got good doesn't make this news — it makes it table stakes. Premium users get natural language queries instead of keywords. Great. Solve problems that existed in 2010.
LinkedIn's not investing in this because they're visionary. They're doing it because Google and Microsoft forced them to stay relevant in an AI conversation. It's a tax on innovation theater, not innovation itself.
What To Do
If you're a recruiter, test it — semantic search for 'ex-Meta product builders now at early-stage AI startups' might actually save time vs. manual filters.
