This deal was announced just hours after Microsoft announced a $9.7 billion deal with Australian data center company IREN.

Our Take

Lambda just went all-in on Azure. Big number, big headlines — but this is really about consolidation.

Every startup training models is now buying from Microsoft directly. They control the supply chain now. Lambda gets scale, Microsoft gets margin, everyone else gets dependent (which is the point).

The deal size doesn't matter. What matters is Lambda can't walk away. If Azure hiccups or raises prices, they're stuck.
