Iran threatens ‘Stargate’ AI data centers
What Happened
Iran said it will target U.S.-linked data centers with new missile strikes, as the war between the U.S. and Iran escalates.
Our Take
This should terrify the AI industry but won't. Stargate's a massive data center sprawl built for US-scale compute. Iran just explicitly threatened to strike it as part of an escalating war. That's infrastructure risk that's completely orthogonal to your fine-tuning strategy but affects everything.
If there's a kinetic strike on Stargate, the US AI industry loses 10-20% of compute capacity overnight. That's a supply shock nobody talks about. But it won't change how anyone builds because admitting geopolitical risk is real and uninsurable doesn't sell funding rounds. (Iran's been threatening a lot — follow-through is low, but the precedent is getting set.)
What To Do
If you're building mission-critical AI services, diversify your compute suppliers. Don't be all-in on one region or one provider.
