Introducing DOI: the Digital Object Identifier to Datasets and Models
Fordel's Take
The DOI thing is bureaucratic noise disguised as progress. It attempts to impose structure on the chaos of ML tracking, which we need, but it won't fix the sloppy data pipelines we deal with daily. It’s a nice-to-have for academic papers, but for us, the real cost is ensuring that the exact training data, seed, and code that produced a model can be perfectly reproduced.
What To Do
Implement internal metadata tracking systems now, focusing on reproducibility via Git and artifact tracking, before waiting for rigid standards like DOI to trickle down.
