Sarvam launching a chat app is bold in a market where nobody's paying yet. If anyone can do local-language AI right, it's them—but this is beta, not ready for 50M+ Hindi users.
Sarvam's real strength: language research (published on Indic NLP). This is either the start of something real (a locally-trained base model) or a PR move while VC money runs out. Local-language chat is winner-take-most, and they're behind Jio and Google.
If they've got real Indic benchmarks against GPT-4, they carve a niche serving governments that need data residency.

Check Sarvam's benchmarks for Hindi against GPT-4 and Claude; if competitive, it's a real product, not a wrapper.
