Hugging Face CEO says we’re in an ‘LLM bubble,’ not an AI bubble
What Happened
Hugging Face co-founder and CEO Clem Delangue says all the attention is on LLMs, but smaller, specialized models will make sense in many use cases going forward.
Our Take
Clem's right and he's one of the few people actually saying it. Frontier models are the hype, but they solve like 5% of real business problems. Smaller, fine-tuned models for specific tasks cost 1/100th as much and work better.
The entire industry's chasing ChatGPT dreams when the money's actually in domain-specific stuff. We're in a "everyone wants a FAANG AI model" bubble, not an AI bubble. Specialized models are already boring—so nobody talks about them.
What To Do
Stop chasing GPT-4-class models for your product; fine-tune a smaller one on your actual data instead.
