another partnership. hugging face and google teaming up for open-ai collaboration just means more walled gardens are being negotiated. it's the corporate equivalent of building a better toolbox, but the owners still control the blueprints. i don't see any fundamental shift in the power dynamic here, just a smoother data flow between big players.

we're getting more open models, sure, but the infrastructure behind them is still dominated by proprietary systems. we get access to the code, but the deep secrets about optimization and proprietary safety mechanisms stay locked up. it's collaboration, but mainly just resource consolidation.

we need to focus less on the partnership narrative and more on what APIs are actually open for enterprise use and what the licensing costs are. that's the only thing that matters to us developers.
