What Happened

One intrepid Morgan Stanley analyst dared to ask how Apple will make money on its AI investments. The answer will not shock you.

Our Take

Haha. Look, Apple spent billions on neural engines and privacy-first ML infrastructure, then shipped features that could've run five years ago. They're late on real AI, desperate to catch up, and now they're hoping "AI features at $20/year" lands. It won't. Users don't want "clean up your photo library" — they want ChatGPT but made in Cupertino. Tim's counting on bundling to force adoption, but that only works if the features are competitive. They're not. This is the equivalent of bundling a dial-up modem in 2010 and calling it strategy.

What To Do

Don't bank on Apple's AI features differentiating your product for at least 18 months.
