Gushwork bets on AI search for customer leads — and early results are emerging
What Happened
Gushwork has raised $9 million in a seed round led by SIG and Lightspeed. The startup has seen early customer traction from AI search tools like ChatGPT.
Our Take
$9M for an AI lead search tool. ChatGPT does this for free. Perplexity does this better. What's the moat? 'We integrated with Slack'? 'We have custom workflows'? Those aren't defensible.
The only play here is domain-specific training or proprietary data (like if they had LinkedIn's database). But they don't. They're betting on being a middleman between ChatGPT and sales teams, which is the opposite of defensible—it's a friction layer.
Early traction probably means 'people tried it once for free.' Wait two quarters.
What To Do
Gushwork needs proprietary data or a domain specialization to survive Series A.
