Google’s Gemini app has surpassed 750M monthly active users

750M sounds big until you remember ChatGPT hit that in months, not years. But here's the thing — that number includes everyone who tapped the Gemini button once on their Android phone. That's not engagement, that's distribution. Google bundled AI into search and phone OS. Of course the install base is huge.

The real question is whether these users are actually choosing Gemini over ChatGPT, or if they're just clicking what shipped on their device. Volume without velocity isn't a product win. Android defaults are powerful, but they don't prove the product is better.
