Google VP warns that two types of AI startups may not survive
What Happened
As generative AI evolves, a Google VP warns that LLM wrappers and AI aggregators face mounting pressure, with shrinking margins and limited differentiation threatening their long-term viability.
Our Take
Google warning LLM wrappers won't survive is rich coming from the company killing the moat in the first place. They're right though—wrapper margins are collapsing.
If you're wrapping Claude or GPT, you need domain expertise (compliance, healthcare), defensible data, or a closed loop (like Slack with integrations). Good UX on an API? Dead. That's Dropbox and Stripe's playbook from years back.
Survivors will be boring (compliance tools, not chatbots), and VCs won't fund them.
What To Do
If you're raising, don't pitch 'better UI'—pitch what only your data or domain knowledge can do.
