Google steps up AI scam protection in India, but gaps remain
What Happened
Google is expanding its real-time scam-detection and screen-sharing fraud warnings in India.
Our Take
This is the unglamorous stuff that actually works. Real impact, no hype. Wish more 'AI companies' cared about boring problems like fraud.
Google's doing real work in India: real-time detection of active scams, fraud warnings baked into Android, actual harm reduction. Nobody's writing Medium posts about it. It doesn't generate VC hype. But it's the opposite of ChatGPT isolation—it's AI used to reconnect people with reality, not seduce them away from it.
"Gaps remain" is honest. They're playing catch-up because detection is hard. But the direction's right: boring, pragmatic, measurable impact.
This is what responsible AI looks like. Wish it was the default instead of the exception.
What To Do
If you're building consumer AI, steal this playbook: focus on measurable harm reduction, not engagement metrics.
