Google snags team behind AI voice startup Hume AI
What Happened
Google has hired the CEO and top engineer behind voice AI startup Hume AI, signaling that voice is increasingly becoming the preferred interface over screens.
Our Take
Voice is winning because typing sucks. Hume's been doing emotional voice AI—actually useful stuff—and Google just acquired the team because they're losing the voice interface war to Apple and nobody's touched the emotional/conversational layer seriously.
This matters for every company thinking voice is just speech-to-text plus ChatGPT. It's not. Voice UX requires completely different model architectures and training strategies. Google knows this now.
Voice interfaces will be the AI default in two years. This hire proves it.
What To Do
If you're building voice products, assume Google's going to have a serious offering by end of 2026—start learning speech synthesis and emotional tone modeling now.
