Google Maps releases new AI tools that let you create interactive projects
What Happened
Google is debuting an agent that will generate code for you to build interactive Maps projects.
Our Take
Okay, this one's actually interesting—if it's not just boilerplate.
Code generation for Maps projects sounds useful because Maps APIs are genuinely painful (rate limits, feature gaps, documentation spread across five docs). If Gemini can actually scaffold projects correctly, this saves real time.
But I'm skeptical. Most "AI generates code for [service]" ends up being 40% correct—loops in right, messes up error handling, misses edge cases you discover at 2am. Will this be different? Probably not. It'll solve the 80/20 of templating but bail when you need customization.
The integration with Maps Studio could make this useful beyond ChatGPT + docs though.
What To Do
Try it on a non-trivial project (not a "show points on a map" demo).
